Archaeologists have found a 25,000 year old hut made from the remains of 60 mammoths, making it the oldest known example of human architecture.
(Mammoth is a prehistoric extinct elephant .)
This hut was found in Russia. It contains the remains of more than 60 mammoths and evidence that people used to burn fires inside. It was most likely used by mammoth hunters or possibly the home of a chief or local leader because it is so large.
"Clearly a lot of time and effort went into building this structure so it was important to the people who built it for a reason," said archaeologists at the site. The original purpose of the hut is unknown, but mammoth remains buried outside suggest that the people using it were storing food.
This hut was built during the last ice age. In total, there have been 5 major ice ages, periods when the Earth cooled due to climate change, continental drift, or geological shifts. The ice ages were incredibly tough times for life to survive, and only the hardiest and most adaptable species were going to survive. The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago
