46) Harihar Fort

 Harihar Fort

Harihar Fort: Harshgarh is a fort located 40 km from Nashik city, 48 km from Agatpuri, 40 km from Ghoti in Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. Harihar fort was built during the Sevana (Yadu) dynasty. It was handed over to Khan Zamam in 1636 along with other forts of Trimbak and Pune. The fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Three of its faces and two edges are exactly vertical (90 degrees). The third bank is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees towards the west. A one meter wide rock staircase with niches has been built to climb and descend the fort.

There are 117 stages in total. After climbing the first rock staircase (the main entrance) we pass under an overhang with a sheer drop. Again one has to climb a set of steep steps (with niches), then walk through a rock staircase and then reach the top of the fort
