The gate of hell 

There is a natural gas crater in the Druze region of Turkmenistan that has been burning continuously since 1971. It actually happened when Soviet engineers mistakenly drilled into a place where there was an underground cave filled with natural gas. When they drilled, an explosion ripped open the ground and a crater 70 meters wide and 20 meters long was formed. 

Scientists set a fire to prevent the methane gas from spreading, thinking that the fire would go out after the gas ran out in a few days, but the gas is still burning after more than 50 years. 

This place has now become a tourist destination where flames burn continuously day and night. This pit has been called the Gate of Hell.

ترکمانستان کے علاقے ڈرویز میں موجود قدرتی گیس کا ایک گڑھا ہے جو کہ سن 1971ء سے مسلسل جل رہا ہے ... دراصل ہوا یوں کہ سویت یونین کے دور میں سویت انجینیرز نے غلطی سے ایک ایسی جگہ کو ڈرل کیا جہاں زیر زمین قدرتی گیس سے بھری ایک غار تھی جب ڈرل کیا گیا تو ایک دھماکے سے زمین پھٹ گئی اور 70 میٹر چوڑا اور 20 میٹر لمبا ایک گڑھا بن گیا 

میتھین گیس کو پھیلنے سے روکنے کیلئے سائنسدانوں نے آگ لگا دی یہ سوچتے ہوئے کہ چند دن میں گیس ختم ہوتے ہی آگ بجھ جائے گی لیکن گیس 50 سال سے زائد عرصہ گزرنے کے بعد بھی جل رہی ہے 

یہ جگہ اب ایک سیاحتی مقام بن چکا ہے جہاں آگ کے شعلے دن ہو یا رات مسلسل بھڑکتے رہتے ہیں اس گڑھے کو جہنم کے دروازے کا نام دیا گیا ہے ۔
