Discovery of the city of Drenkovo

A resident of the Cappadocia region of Turkey discovered a mysterious chamber behind the wall of his house in the 1963 discovery of the city of Derankio, leading to the rediscovery of the ancient underground city of Derankio. The city was built primarily by the Phrygian people, who were master architects of the Iron Age and who accomplished this feat between the 7th and 12th centuries BC. This vast city remained hidden beneath the surface of the earth for centuries. Over time, various civilizations, especially the Byzantine Empire, expanded into it.

Drenkovo, one of the largest cities of its kind, could have sheltered thousands of people and livestock. It is a wonderful example of ancient engineering and human ingenuity.
